My finance and I work for the same company. He is from Egypt and our company has transferred him to Montreal Canada for a better position. He has been in Canada now for several years and has just become a permanent resident. He now has to wait for 2 years to become a Canadian citizen. I live in the US and I am a US citizen. We've been dating for 1 1/2 years and we just got engaged 3 weeks ago. We are not sure when we can get married. Once he gets his Canadian citizenship, he will move to the US to be with me. He will transfer through the same company but to the US location. We don't know the best and fastest way to go about this. Is it better to transfer with the job 1st, then get married. Or is it better to come here with a fiance visa and get married? You would think it would be better to get married once he moves here. But the problem is, I will be moving at the end of next year to Georgia (from NY) which is where my fiance will come as well. We wanted to get married while I was still in New York with all my family before moving. And to answer the obvious question, why doesn't he move now instead of waiting for Candian citizenship, is because he loves Canada, and if the job or us doesn't work out some where down the road, he can go back to Canada and not Egypt. After the 2 years, I hope the wait is not long for him to come to the states. I need help... Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Marry when and where you want to and then start the immigration process when you want to.

He doesn't need to wait for anything to get married. If you want to marry in NY, plan a wedding and go for it. You would then start the spouse visa process. Or, start the fiance process and marry after he arrives with a fiance visa.

If he comes on an H1B visa, he can just stay and adjust status anyway. You have lots of options. If he can simply transfer here now, that's ok. If he wants Canadian citizenship, he'll need to fulfill whatever requirements apply.

Decide on your priorities and plan accordingly.

Thanks for your response. I have another question now.

My Boyfriend - Husband to be - has a valid visiting Visa to the US that he uses to visit me and for business purposes If he applies for a K1 fiancé visa, during the time that the US immigration is validating the request will they revoke his current visa? the reason I ask is because I am afraid that if he applies for a K1 Visa the US immigration might revoke his current valid visa before issuing the K1 Visa.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
