Okay, first a little background information...

I have Verizon Wireless as my service provider. I find that I get much better signal strength and calling clarity with them than my previous provider (Cingular), so I don't really have any problems there. At least I don't think so.

I used to have a V276 cell phone, which from I've been told is fairly basic. It did the job, but I wanted something with a little more to it. So I got a KRZR and since VZW uses CDMA, I got the K1m version instead of the K1 (which works with GSM) and I'm fine with that. No problems there either.

Although the cell seems to have a lot of cool features, I'm unsure how to do three very important things with it: Import pictures, video and music from my PC to my phone.

I have the "Music Essentials Kit" from the Verizon Store, but all I can do with that is link up to Windows Media Player and import music directly to my cell phone's player. That sounds okay, but I'd like to use these files as ringtones, not just play them like an iPod. I can't seem to move over any pictures or videos at all!

On my other cell phone, all I had to do was send myself an e-mail (cell_number@vzwpix.com) with an attachment, and I'd be able to store it for later use as a ringtone or a wallpaper, depending on what sort of file it was. I've already tried doing that with this cell phone and the e-mail won't go through.

I am not going to stick with the default wallpapers and ringtones or get forced into purchasing (at insanely high prices) whichever ones Verizon has pre-selected on their site. I don't even want what they're offering, so why would I pay for it anyway?

Honestly, this is ridiculous. Setting this all up was a breeze on the V276 and here, on what's supposed to be a "better" cell phone, it's been a nightmare! I'm seriously thinking of reverting back to my old cell phone. It's not as fancy and has less gadgets and gizmos, but at least it'll do what I want. :(

So... if anyone here has any experience or knowledge about this sort of thing, I could definitely use the help. Normally, I'm all over this stuff, but for some reason, this just has me floored.

whenever I have had any issues with my phone, I have gone to our local mall and checked out Brian at the Cingular (now AT&T I suppose) store. He always helped me through my issues.

Do you have a local store or kiosk or something where someone can help you?

I don't know if you can use the songs as ring tones. I have several songs on my phone that I synced from my computer. They are there to listen too, but you can't use them as ring tones. I'm assuming you have a card in your phone that stores the music. That's where mine is stored but there is no way to use them other than to listen to them as music. Hopefully someone will come along that knows more than me and we'll both be able to use our music as ring tones.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

there are several freewares for the razr, so you can upload your wallpapers and stuff, it's not complicated, but it requires time.. i did that with my razr, erased the default wallpapers to free more memory, and uploaded my pics.. and it looks like you have to configure your email, talk to tech support, because it should work as in the older phones.. also you have to make sure the videos you want to upload are in the right format for the krzr

newer phones, although they have more gadgets, they come with more restrictions, because they want you to spend more using their music services and ####### like that.. besides, the format for the music is not mp3 i think, so it's a different format.. you'd have to convert the files and whatnot.. making mp3's ringtones, there are phones that can do that, like the blackjack or the q1(or q5) from motorola..

Alright... I fixed the problem.

It seems that Verizon locks down their cell phones in order to force their customers to use their "get it now" service. This way, people have to pay through the nose for a group of preselected ringtones and pictures. I found a way around that, though. I'm sure Verizon wouldn't be too thrilled about that, but screw 'em. If they're going to force my hand like this, then I'll do what I can.

I wouldn't be entirely against paying for the ability to put ringtones on my cell phone, but to pay to do that and have a limited choice, decided for me by them? No way!

So anyway, I've now got the MP3 ringtones and pictures I want on it. :D

If anyone is interested in how I did it (it's really no secret; you can use Google to search around a little) and you have a Motorola KRZR, then PM me for details. Otherwise, I probably won't know a whole lot about your particular cell phone. I'm sure there's something that can be done. There always is.
