I got MRSA after my brain and neck surgery :( It was really horrific!

They thought I had spinal meningitis at first. I was in the hospital for an extra month because of it, but the catch 22 is, I was too sick to go home, but too weak to stay in the hospital without possibly getting sicker....my family wound up gutting a bedroom in their house (including ripping out the carpet and getting rid of all the furniture), sterilizing it as best they could, getting every hospital equipment that I needed (bed, IVs, monitors, etc, etc, etc) and I needed round the clock private nurses.

I won't go into graphics, but needless to say it was awful and disgusting.

3 months later, I finally was ok tho!

BTW, I was in an awesome private hospital....my chances were 50/50 of just surviving the surgery & 75-80 that I'd be paralyzed from the neck down....so I'm not complainin!

There but for the Grace of God go i, eh? *shudder*

4 years old! :D

Sorry, I should have mentioned four years ago it was worse. Maybe someone could explain that to the people who died way back then  due to the inadequacies of the system. I could call 911 right now, this very second and recieve the very same care has the richest guy around. I wouldnt have to "Pick a number".

I'm not saying that the people who died didn't matter, I'm saying that your figures are out of date. ;)

I still don't get why people keep citing the UK NHS as what "Universal Healthcare" would mean for the USA. Its a completely different system, differently funded and differently operated. As far as I'm aware the proposals to reform the US systems involve subsidised and/or mandatory health insurance, not getting rid of the insurance industry altogether (surely impossible?) and nationalising the hospitals.

Or we can just let things continue the same and let MRSA infections continue to run amok here in the US, to the denial of others.

Thank goodness I think twice about taking antibiotics for weak infections that can easily be beat with weaker drugs/natural remedies. Unfortunately, I can't count on over-prescribing MDs and people's poor health habits to keep the USA's hospitals clean. A few major reality checks are in order here- from a government that does not want to take care of its citizens that keep it afloat to an insurance industry that bases its living on overcharging MDs and patients alike, to a citizen base that is uninformed in decent living conditions.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
