Secrecy defense prevails in torture case

The point of the ruling was this, to let it proceed would expose secrets we really need to keep. This is a good of the country kind of thing. While this guy may deserve justice the act of giving it to him would put the nation in peril. Every nation has it's secrets that it must keep regardless of the unfortunate unintended outcomes.

I understand the secrecy part, but hell, no apologies, dropping him in Albania? I mean, at least he should have gotten a decent treatment after they found out they got the wrong guy.. and I don't get how can you give secrets when they just want an explanation of how the fukc did they get the wrong guy..

The problem is that this isn't an isolated incidence. They could have at least offered him an apology and soem sort of under the table deal which happens ALL THE TIME in this town!

Except that pretty much amounts to a "get out of jail free" card. An excuse to avoid prosecution for outright wrong-doing, and a cover-up for incompetance.

that's what I find disturbing, that people from VJ, are at risk at situations like this, and I mean, the person doesn't even have to BE middle eastern (wasn't this guy from the news german anyway?).. just look like an 'arab' (it looks like for any US security agency 'arab name' or 'arab name that is alike a terrorist name' = terrorist!!!) and bam! u get abducted (yea, that's not arrested for interrogation, that's pure kidnapping)... but some other members (who don't look arab or are not from the middle east) say yea go ahead, it's a small price...

Aren't the people who kidnapped the guy wanted by Interpol or something?

I am willing to bet the guys that screwed up have or will pay the price for their mistake. We just won't get to see it is all. To expose our surveillance procedures like that I am sure was frowned upon.

You might be willing to bet - but that doesn't exactly mean much where the CIA is concerned. They don't exactly have a glowing record where this sort of thing is concerned.

Unfortunately there are a$$holes out there who think they are above the law - that's a fact of life. Still little reason to defend their gestapo tactics.

The problem is...the Dubya administration are the only people who know what "secrets" the administration is talking about. Let me see, we can't trust judges, we can't trust senators, we can't trust representatives and we sure as hell can't trust the american people. The only people Bushies trust is.......
