Not only can you use/keep your Canadian credit cards, you can use that to barter to *transfer* to a US one. Or thats what we did anyway. Abdel opened a bank account in Canada that had a branch here in Tampa (RBC). He also took out a credit card based on his Canadian credit. When he arrived, he went to the branch and explained his story (immigration) and asked if they could check his Canadian credit, and if he could obtain a US credit card based on his good standing history. OILA! Credit card unsecured 7500 limit. A bit lower than his credit card limits in Canada, but certainly better than starting from 0. I was added to the account at a later date so my credit had no affect on his approval. Food for thought.

damn..wish VISA, who are Internationally known and used, would do that..I'd be sweet! Get my US CC in no time..alas..they don't do that do they?

My husband added me as a Joint Owner on all his credit cards (he has 4) and all his bank accounts (he has 2), and made sure this appeared on my credit report. That's how I bulit my credit rating, to date, I have 2 credit cards under my own name, had never been turned down. Good luck!
