i recently sbmitted my AOS and used my husband's family name. i just want to know if there is a need to change my passport name and in case i dont, would that cause any problem in the future? my passport will expire 2011.

You wont need to, but if you travel internationally, your ticket should match your passport name. For domestic flights its not necessary, assuming your not using your passport as identification.

Having a copy of your marriage certificate with you may help relieve any problems should they come up.

It was my understanding all USA residents and or legal residents need to travel in their legal name

The state department will not be able to help. A new passport is not necessary and she does not yet qualify for a US passport. Travel is fine if you use your maiden name on the ticket, to match your passport. Keep your greencard when you get it and marriage certificate with you and you will be fine.

Dan + Gemvita is right... but you can also have your passport changed under your married name at the Philippine Embassy close to your area.
