Actually, I think he was censored. Personally, I find thread locking and member suspension a bit ridiculous on an adult message board. This is purely my personal opinion though, I don't expect many people to agree with it.

At times the stuff that goes on in the O/T section of this forum doesn't deserve the term 'adult' to describe it (I say - comparing this to other forums I participate on). That said - internet forums aren't really democratic mediums, so its somewhat puzzling to see why people have that expectation.

It's not an expectation, it's simply a statement of my opinion. I guess I don't take offense easily though. People act like ####### all the time, especially on internet forums so it's all par for the course. It actually surprises me how often threads are locked and apparently posts censored (making posts invisible etc)

I might not agree with everything everyone says, but I'll defend the right for them to say it

Comparisons should never be used. Lets compare you to me. We are different in all ways. You are no better than me and visa versa. Never would I suggest you be banned from anything. You have the right to say what you want. I have been called a drunk. (many times by you) a piece of ###### by other people. It is just a healthy way of showing frustration, thats all. It does not bother me to much, cuz I feel the same way. But when the pack has the ability to silence a person is kind of weak.

There is a line though between expressing ones views on a subject and being deliberately insulting to people. Someone complaining that they got banned because they called so and so a "motherfcuker" (or something similar) doesn't have very much to defend IMO.

Though its easier to be anti-social on internet forums than it is in real life - both come with at least some reasonable expectation of consequence.

Well I think we ought to be specific here. The 9/11 thread you hijacked didn't involve you expressing an individual opinion as much as it did involve you jumping on and repeatedly attacking someone who demonstrated a direct, personal link to the tragedy.

The 'pack' BTW - has no power, relatively speaking. That resides with the admin and moderators.

I guess this is where we have to agree to differ. I don't have a problem with people expressing their frustration in insults. Of course, there is the danger that all threads would degenerate into personal mudslinging matches but I would imagine if that happened, most people would drift away from the forum.

However, it's not as if there is any danger that this forum is going to suddenly change it's policy just because I personally find it silly.

What I tend to find on other forums is that the more people actually engage with one another respectfully, even when they disagree, the more the admin presence fades into the background.

Of course that is true, but I have participated in 'non moderated' forums that have had no slanging matches at all. There are going to be 'personalities', people who like to take the limelight, but it is possible to ignore things you find objectionable, without having to seek censorship from the powers that be.

I can't remember one occasion where I wished to silence someone else. regardless of how misguided I might think their expression of an opinion might be.

Who gets to draw the line you or me? "Anti social" is an opinion of yours based on my passed comments that you have interpreted .You dont know me, anymore than I know you. PLEASE keep that in mind. I am no different. My opinions of you are also based on this.
