i693 for adjustment of status with K1 Visa entry

Hello!

 

We are in the process of filing/applying for adjustment of status using form i485. During the process, it says we need to complete a partial i693 because a full panel physician medical examination was already done in the home country of my fiancé (now husband). The partial i693 has a vaccine worksheet part 10 that needs to be completed and signed in part 7 by a Civil Surgeon. We went to one today to finish this process. 

 

I was under the impression that the Civil Surgeon/their office would sign the paperwork and stamp it then put it in a sealed envelope and hand it to me the same day. But this office is saying that they are going to send it to the State dept to have it officially stamped, sorted and sealed, then mailed back to Civil Surgeon's office and then that is given to us in a sealed envelope. They insist its a 2 week process.

 

Is this how it works for everyone else too?

If your Overseas Medical in preparation for the K-1 interview at the embassy was less than 1 year prior to you filing the I-485, then you don't need to do an I-693. I would just include a copy of your DS-3025 with the I-485 to remind them you are a K-1 applicant and you are exempt from the I-693 requirement. Just make sure you select the correct filing category on the I-485 for a K-1 applicant who got married to their petitioner within the 90 days which is:

Person admitted to the United States as a fiancé(e) or child of a fiancé(e) of a U.S. citizen (K-1/K-2 Nonimmigrant)

I am hearing conflicting information about it. I am also hearing that the new polio vaccine is required as part of the vaccine requirements. My husband didn't get the polio vaccine during his medical exam done by the panel physician. They marked the polio vaccine as "not age appropriate" but the civil surgeon is saying that the new polio vaccine requirement is ok for all ages so it's required, which means my husband would need to get it and then that would mean he needs a partial i-693 completed (parts 1-5, 7, and 10). 

 

But yes,  we still have the DS-3025 copy but the polio vaccine says not age appropriate blanket waiver.

Any conflicting information you have heard saying the I-693 is required even for K-1 Adjusters that are filing the I-485 within 1 year of their overseas medical exam is flat out wrong

The polio vaccine is now required and "Not Age Appropriate" blanket waivers are no longer accepted for medical exams done after 5/1/2024. Your husband will have to get the Polio vaccine done here. This is not a reason to delay your filing of the AOS as the polio vaccine question does not come up until the interview
