Hello, well I'm filing the Form I-130A (wife already filed the I-130), and in the part of employment history I have some questions... Before coming to the US I was self employed, working almost exclusively with one company, but in the end I was self employed. Then, 2 months ago I came to the US and of course haven't worked since.

First question, in current employment, I have to put "unemployed" right? and the dates are since I came to the US to this day.

Second question, before that, how do I fill my self employed phase? In Name of Employer do I put my name or I just put "Self-employed"? same with address. And in the "occupation" section, do I have to put what my work was? (I was a financial consultant).

And lastly, I have had some unemployed months in the past 5 years, do I also have to put them in here?

Thank you all so much!

Yes, put unemployed now - but presumably you were still employed when you came to the US, you had a job to go back to that you had to give notice to? Make sure you're careful about that, if you say you've been unemployed since you arrived it could look as though you planned to stay.

For prior work put yourself if you were self employed, and the location where you worked (i.e. your home/office). Occupation means what you did.

And yes, include all dates/periods of employment including when you were unemployed.

Yes! that was another question that popped up in my head. When I came to the US I was self-employed. I entered the US 11/26/25, and technically I was off work for vacations (self employed work) until 12/14/25, and then I gave notice I wasn't gonna work with the company I was providing services anymore. So in this case, I just put Self Employed until 12/14/25, even though I was already in the US when that happened?

And for the rest perfect, gotcha. Thank you!

I would do, yes, as you technically were still employed at that point.

I put my company's name.  Did you not have a company that you owned?  if not, put self employed.

Yes, write "financial consultant"

Technically the company's name was (and still is) my name. We call it an "unipersonal" company. Should I put my name in there? Or just Self-employed. I think the latter is more reasonable, but I'm talking from the ignorance.
