I totally get that. Best of luck to you.

Thank you.

By the way, if I were to abandon the Reentry Permit idea for now and simply go back and forth between the two countries more often, as in, once every 3 or 4 months, would that raise a flag in the system or would that be ok?

I'm wondering when-how the count to 6 months-1 year resets.  Based on what I've read, I assume the system flags you if you spend 6 or more (1 year limit) continuous months outside of the US. How accurate is that? Does the count reset as soon as one arrives in the US or would one have to stay in the US for a specific minimum amount of time before one can leave again to reset the count of maximum amount of time allowed outside the US before the system considers one's renouncing their Green Card?

It would depend on so many factors. My children are both at university overseas and they go backwards and forwards every few months (spending approx 7 months outside the US each year), they have both been taken in to secondary when entering.  But as soon as they can prove they're only outside the US for educational purposes and that their only home is in the US, their parents are here, their jobs are here, they pay taxes here, etc, they are waved through instantly. There's no set '6 months or more' that will flag, just a regular pattern of travel can do it too.

If you're questioned, it sounds like you don't have a home in the US anymore? So what other ties do you have to show you are still LPR's other than occasional work responsibilities?
