If you submit the DS-160, the passport number will be locked in. You can't schedule the interview before paying the fee.

 

You can just update it at interview, bringing both new and old passports.

I agree, no need for a new DS160, just continue the K1 with the current passport number, start the passport renewal process (take a phot of the current passport bio page in case Nigeria does not return the expired passport), and update the information with the consulate officer when the K1 interview come up.
