Hi all,

I hope someone here can shed some light to what is going on with my parent's citizenship application.

In October 2024 we mailed the application forms and the checks were cashed mid December, 2024.

However, we have not received any form of communication, not even a letter saying that application was received.

When we try to call, the automated system does not let you talk to anyone unless you have a case number.

Does anyone know how we can talk to a live person without a case number?   We just moved and need to update the new address but we are just stuck in this limbo.

We just moved last week and are working on mail forwarding with the post office.

We will stop using the old address end of this month.

I see. Just to let you know: most of the times mail forwarding doesn't work with USCIS. At least, nothing worked for me when I was moving: USPS intercept, Hold Mail, Forwarding.... GC showed up at old address.

One thing you can do is try to get Infopass appointment and see if USCIS can find case by alien number.

Another thing, try to file FOIA and get all files back.

If you paid with check, do you have a scan of cashed check? Sometimes USCIS writes case number in the check itself as they deposit it.

When i try to set up an info pass appointment, there are only 3 options which do not apply to them

1.  ADIT stamp request

2. Emergency advance parole

3. Immigration judge grant.

These were paper applications and my parents are in their 60s and 70s.

I have attached the image of the checks but it does not mean much to me.

Even with a paper application (my wife filed via paper) you can set up an online account so you get NOAs, and other communications while the process is occurring.

Good Luck!

But OP never got letters from USCIS and doesn't know case #

Yes, they will need the case number to set up a myUSCIS account.  They should allow an option to use the A number.

Not sure what you mean by use A number.

I created an account in one of their names but even still, to check on progress, they need a case number that you can add to the account.

Does anyone know of any phone number i can call to talk to a live person - i can't seem to get past the automated system without a case number.

A Number, a.k.a. Alien Registration Number, it is the 9 digit number found on the GC.

Circling back to the move mentioned in your OP, did you move to a new USCIS district?
