Fiance already received their social security number. After marriage will be submitting AOS. The Social Security office said to come back after marriage for a name change. But for the I-485 and in the instructions, for number 16 and 17,  we are instructed to mark yes if you want to receive a replacement with name change. If we mark "no" and go to the office for the name change, is that faster and acceptable? Or should we be marking yes on the I-485 and wait for the I-485 to process and then receive it?

Quote from instructions:

"If your application is approved, the SSA may assign you an SSN and issue you a Social Security card, or issue you
a replacement card. If you want the SSA to assign you a Social Security number and issue you a Social Security
card, or issue you a new or replacement Social Security card, then answer “Yes” to both Item Number 16. and
Item Number 17."

No. Rare to be approved unless you get someone who knows the policy correctly.

If you have an SSNumber, you want a replacement card. Answer yes to the questions regarding a REPLACEMENT card.
