Hello - I have received my welcome letter from the US embassy in london inviting me to book medicals and interview etc, there is no time frame for these and wondered if anyone knew how soon you need to action these?

I only ask as my son will be travelling all summer with his father and won’t be available to attend his medical or interview until late September. Would this be an issue?

also - does anyone have any helpful advice on what to do or not do once we are approved and filing for AOS? Anything else I should file for at the same time to speed up being able to work

thanks in advance

The only "time frame" you have is the validity date on your NOA2. that is technically when your petition expires. However, most embassies will automatically extend petitions 4 months at a time for up to one year.

if your son is coming with you to the United States, you could schedule your interviews for when he is back in september.

You could also contact the embassy when your validity date is coming up and just double check with them that your petition validity will be extended.

When you do end up scheduling your medicals and interviews, you want to make sure your medical is first and 5-10 days before the interview. That way it has time to make it to the embassy in time for your interview. Also because the 6 months that the K-1 visa is valid (the amount of time you have to move to the US) starts from the date of the medical, not the date the visa is issued.

The only thing I would suggest for before you get married is getting a social security number. it makes things like getting a bank account, drivers license, etc. much easier without having to wait for the AOS.

Other than filing the actual AOS form, I-485, you would file form I-765 at the same time. I-765 is the work authorization form.

But unfortunately theres not much you can do to speed anything up.
