Bona fide Marriage - Arranged Marriage?

3 posts in this topic

Recommended Posts

I know this question has popped up so many times, but after reading so many threads none seem to cover the issue of arranged marriage. I recently married my wife, we knew each other roughly a month or so before we got married. Since it was an introduction by our relatives and it is an arranged marriage. With that said, what can we provide as evidence of a bona fide marriage? We have nothing financially together, nothing substantial collected since we've only known each other for months. I have wedding photos and DVD of the wedding but thats about it. Should I write a letter stating that this was an arranged marriage? Or is that a red flag? This is sincerely an arranged marriage and i'm having difficulty compiling evidence as it being a bona-fide marriage due to our short time together. All help is appreciated!

Regards,

Kevin

I don't think an arranged marrige has to be a red flag, especially if there is a cultural norm. You can avoid pointing out "arranged" and just say ou met through family.

Even if you have known each other for a few months, do you phone bills? do you have letters, emails? Have you added her to any policies?

You might want to fill in your timeline too.

Arranged marriages are not a red flag. The DOS and DHS are aware that this is the norm in many cultures and will not have a problem with it, assuming that it is normal to do such things in your and/or your spouses culture.

As most recently marrieds (even non-arranged) don't have lots of evidence of a bona fide marriage, you don't have to include much. Get affidavits from your family and hers (2 or 3 should do) that say that they know of the relationship and that it is bona fide. They could even state a bit about how the marriage came about if they have that knowledge, but it is not needed.
