Plus, when it comes to presidential elections, people don't vote strictly along party lines. Most Americans are 'middle-of-the-road' in terms of political ideology. When you look at poll numbers on the issues, it demonstrates Americans are far more multi-dimensional than any 2 party system or ideological polarities want us to believe.

...which is why some political strategists focus on divisive issues such as abortion or gay marriage in order to draw a heavy line in the sand.
