Hello,

I have applied for IR5 visa for my parents, they are already Documentarily Qualified by NVC, and now we are waiting on the Interview Letter to arrive. Our embassy requires the passport to be at least 8 months valid at the time of the visa interview. My mother's passport might be less than 8 months valid by the time of the interview.

My questions are if I renew her passport now:

  • Do I have to notify NVC or update the form DS260 before we go for the interview?
  • Do I have to notify the US Embassy before we go for the interview?
  • Will there be an issue if we go with a new passport to get the medical done?

If I do not have to do anything, do I just go with the new and the old passport for medical, biometric, and the interview?

Any insights on this will be quite helpful! Thank you so much in advance.
