Hi ladies and gents, I am coming to you once again for guidance. I am now at the stage that I should be preparing the forms for affidavit of support, but i was wondering was it at all neccessary for me to get an attorney to file that for me. i did some shopping around and it cost about 750.00 which I know that I dont have, but I did want to make sure that everything was perfect. For anyone that has already done it , was it hard and what supoorting documents did you have to provide. I am thinking i will need a co-sponsor b/c i didnt start my new job until June 2006. So please give me advice on what to do. i know if I can get some assistance with the people that have already gone through it, I may be able to do it myself and use that 750.00 to help with other expenses. Oh yea an one more question. I wanted to know are school loans counted as income? I know they have to be paid back but at the time that you get them they are also used as supplimental income to help support yourself while you are in school. Is it beneficial to be in Nigeria during the interview? I know some people say yes and others say No but what do VJ say. Thanks in Advance for all the help in answering questions.

An attorney for I-134? Maybe a tax accountant or tax attorney, to help you organize and present the sponsor's financial information, but not an immigration attorney.

Just follow the instructions on the form. You don't need an attorney and you do not "file" the I-134. You send it to your SO to carry to the interview and hand over if asked for it.

State your current income. If it is sufficient, you qualify as the sponsor. Prove the current income with an employer letter and pay stubs.

No, student loans are debts, not income.

Your presense in Nigeria at the time of the interview will help establish that the relationship is bona fide.

An immigration attorney who has experience with cases going through the consulate in Nigeria to help prepare the other documentation that will be needed for the visa application and interview - by all means. Lagos is a tough consulate.

Thank you for the speeedy responses. I will do just that and follow the instructions. One othr thing I wanted to know is I did not see where my co sponsor will have to fill in any info. i have downloaded the form but did not see that part.

If your income is sufficient, you don't need additional sponsorship. From what you've written, you've been working full time for over a year, so you probably qualify as sponsor. If you do need an additional sponsor, they fill out a complete I-134 and you send them both to be available if requested.
