All,

Posting my friend's experience and timeline (he's not on VJ :) - learned about it today after his naturalization)

Filed Online for N400 (5 year rule) - May 17, 2021

Office - Raleigh, NC

Biometrics reuse notification: May 18, 2021

FOIA filed - Dec 2021

FOIA files received - Feb 7, 2022

Interview notification: Feb 22, 2022

Interview Date: March 29, 2022

Oath taken: March 29, 2022 (Same day oath)

Experience was similar to most folks - security check was airport like and he arrived 20 mins prior to appointment time. Was called in by the officer around 45 mins later.  He took interview first (Civics, reading and writing) followed by yes/no. My friend hadn't submitted his traffic citations, so he disclosed them and officer checked the receipts and since they were paid said no big deal. Post processing told him to wait for 15 mins to see if he can oath in the next hour. Came back and said he will be taking oath in the next 30 mins.

Overall 1.5 hours from arrival to exit.

He had submitted the FOIA request after i advised him to do so since he was unaware. Not sure if requesting the A-file did the trick for the interview or not, but there was at least a coincidence in the A-file arriving and the interview notice coming in within 2 weeks. For background he was in the US prior to 2010 and like many others have noted, may have had some physical files within his A-file.

Thanks

We had our i751 and n400 combo interview today at the Sacramento Field Office, we were called in about 45 minutes after our appointment time. The US citizen spouse and petitioner attended the i751 interview first, mostly asking questions to the applicant about the US spouse’s family, trips together, and domestic questions about our home life.

The US citizen  spouse was allowed to remain for the n400 interview, the interview went well and the petitioner passed the test needing only 6 questions. We requested a name change but the interviewing officer indicated that the Sacramnto field office does not provide that service so the application was amended for no name change.

The interviews seem to go well, the IO indicated that she was  recommending both petitions i751 & n400 to be approved and was being sent to a supervisor for final approval. IO was professional and was helpful with slowing down her speech to help the petitioner understand the question as needed, also engage in some casual conversation such as how cool a Chicago landmark was and asked how we anticipated using the tablet for the writing test. We indicated we watched YouTube videos of naturalization interviews.

Both interviews took just over an hour. We entered through security  at 12:30pm and got out about 2:30pm with both the wait time and interview time combined.

We asked the IO about the oath ceremony; she indicated that they are scheduled once a month (around the end of each month) and are conducted in Roseville. She also indicated we needed to bring the green card to get the certificate of naturalization.

Question asked for n400

What is one thing Benjamin Franklin is famous for?

Who is the current president?  Joe Biden

What is your state capital? (Sacramento)

What are the first 10 amendments of the constitution called?

What are two rights in the Declaration of Independence?

Age needed to vote for president?

Reading test:

The president lives in the whitehouse

Wiring test

The whitehouse is in Washington DC

So we await approval post interview.
