Tax Day (April 18th) is coming up but I will upload my I-864 to NVC before that.  Is 2020 my most recent tax year?  What if I've already filed an extension for my 2021 taxes, then does 2021 become most recent or is that irrelevant to determining the most recent tax year?  After Tax Day, I would have to include IRS Form 4868 as proof of extension but should I still include IRS Form 4868 to show them the status of my 2021 taxes if I'm uploading before Tax Day?

Personally, I would file 2021 taxes and send a copy of the tax return package.  Otherwise, you can send the extension request along with a copy of your 2020 taxes.  The extension is not proof of filing 2021 taxes.  Be advised that NVC and/or the consulate can still ask for your 2021 tax return or transcript.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

I'm assuming you mean after tax day?  Before April 18th, most recent tax year would be 2020 right?

But, I'd still fill out the form as if 2020 is the most recent year right?  then just upload 2021 as soon as possible afterwards?
