So I got back my tax transcripts today from the IRS. My understanding is that the 'form number' they're printed on is 1722. However, I can't find that form number anywhere on mine. They're pretty unremarkeable looking documents, as it goes.

I DO have my own copies of the 1040s and my W2s - I'm of half a mind to use them instead of these transcripts. Opinions? And does everyone else's transcripts also not have any sort of form number on them? (I DID search VJ for that, couldn't find an answer.)

The transcripts tend to be printed on plain paper, mine were and were fine for the consulate, and accepted without problems by USCIS.

1040's with W2's are just fine. It is clear in the instructions that they are accepted so why bother with transcripts unless you dont have the 1040 and w2?

Well, I initially didn't think I had my 2005 W2 anymore so I sent off for the transcripts. I found the W2 in the meantime so now I'm just debating which to send.

Edited to add: thanks YuandDan - that's exactly what they are. Printed on 'plain' paper. Seeing as the IRS tends to put and use form numbers left and right, I was surprised these didn't have one.
