Backlog in Lima, Peru Embassy

Hi All,

Does anyone know how long the backlog is at the embassy in Lima? Does the type of visa (K1 vs CR1) impact when an interview will be scheduled?

I've heard that K1 interviews are being scheduled 1-2 months after receiving the DQ notification from the NVC, but that CR1 visas are delayed by more than a year. Is that possible?

We were recently DQ'd in December, and I cannot imagine having to wait another year just for an interview.

K-1s do not "DQ" from NVC.   There are no documents to be uploaded or verified at that phase.  NVC simply holds onto approved petitions until the consulate is ready to interview and requests them.

I can't see why they would ever prioritize K-1s over CR-1s.  What would the rationale be?  It is usually the other way around, if anything.

Ah, thank you for the clarification regarding K-1s and DQ.

Ok, that's what I thought, but it appears on the FB group that folks with K-1s are getting the appointment significantly faster than those with CR-1s. Wanted to know if people here are experiencing the same, or if there is a way to validate the number of embassy appointments being scheduled, available, etc.

We were DQ'd in February 2021, so we are almost at the one year point with our case status still showing "AT NVC."  I'll post as soon as we get our next message so that you can maybe get an idea...

Have you received any updates regarding your case? We were DQ'd in Sep2021.

Nope.... let's see, we have already slow government workers with an "excuse" to do work even slower? I'll probably die of old age before my spouse gets a visa....
