Hi All! I hope someone can help me answer this question. My parents recently became LPRs. My dad is 65 and my mom is 63. They are not working in the US, but my dad receives income from his previous home country. He worked for the government for 25 years and receives monthly retirement income of $1750.
Can he apply for Covered California using this income?

Thank you!

Received Approval: July 2021

Filed for NVC: August 2021

Case transferred to Embassy: September 2021

Participation in "Covered California" is not tied to income.  Anyone legally resident in California can apply.  They use income to determine if your parents could receive assistance with the premiums, or if they would pay out of pocket.  That would be decided in the application process.  I got health insurance for my wife and stepdaughter through Covered California even though we are way way way over any kind of income limit where we could or should get assistance, so in our case we are paying the premiums in full out of pocket.  But even so, applying through Covered California was still the best option for them.  There is no down side to just applying and seeing what the results of the application process is.
