Hi all! My family and I are planning to move back to Iowa from the UK next year, as soon as we can visa allowing! (currently with NVC)

I have been doing some research into shipping. We are inclined to sell larger furniture here and buy again in the US (only our beds belong to us, we rent our current home). However, a friend of mine works at a well known shipping company and can offer me 50% off large boxes. So £60 per large box we send, which is obviously a great deal for 2 day shipping. However, when I have sent gifts this way before I have been stung by large fees (not sure if customs or taxes) when the boxes have arrive stateside. Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid this, as I am only going to be sending our used belongings, nothing new.

Many thanks,

Claire
