Hello good people,

I am US citizen with an approved form i-129f for my fiancée which was approved in September 2020.i received an email from the NATIONAL VISA CENTER in October 2021 stating file has been sent to the US consulate/embassy in Lagos. Do we have to fill out form DS160 application out before they consulate could schedule her for the visa interview or hold on until she's scheduled for an interview and fill out the applications out after that? Thank you!

Someone who completed a K1 can advise best, but I closed a K1, as we got married,I found I could do the DS160 at any time after NVC, however considering the following. As the DS160 can be done very quickly 90 min, and is not impactful til the Consulate receives your application officially, it seems good to wait til the Consulate receives it. Also, its good to check in a few weeks with consulate to ensure receiving. It is good also to keep in mind your answers, ie times coming etc. are matching for the interview. When the consulate receives it, they will send letter to your fiance with instructions to schedule appointment. That seems the best time, as it will be closer to interview.
