Montreal domicile requirements and experiences.

Hello everyone,

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with the domicile requirements through the Montreal consulate. Me and my Canadian wife are filling out our I-130 forms and are wondering if the address we intend to move to will be acceptable.

Since we are both living in Canada we will need to prove we intend to actually move back to the states.

We are planning on staying with my sister in her spare room for the first little while until we can get on our feet and get our own place. Will this be enough of proof or will we need to have a lease on our own place? I hear Montreal is very strict in this matter.

Alternatively we can stay at my parents house and work for them but they live in a different state and that’s definitely not where we intend to establish ourselves.

With Covid I have seen Montreal being a little more lax compared to precovid. They used to want the USC to actually be moved before the visa was issued. There was no wiggle room.

Recently have seen members post that they only need to show intent.

Since you're just starting out I don't think any of us can say how they will treat domicile in a year or two. It most likely will take more then a year for you to get to that stage. For now you can put your present address.

So whatever address we put in this initial I-130 doesn’t necessarily need to be the one we eventually move to by the time the interview and domicile portion of the process comes up? Just at that time in a year from now (or however long it ends up taking) we need to have a concrete plan? Cuz ya it’s a little hard to know that far out what our plans are gonna be.
