DS-260 Question: "other names used..."

Good morning,

My daughter was given an interview date at the Embassy in Moscow, and she will eventually get here on an IR2 Visa.  They reopened the DS-260 because it's over a year old.  I understand that.  I may want to change the way I answered one of the questions, and I'm looking for advice.

Without getting into all the how's and why's and intricate details:

17 years ago, my daughter was born with my last name and I was on the original birth certificate, of which I only have a copy.

When she was two (2) months old, the last name was changed to the name she has now and I'm on that birth certificate as well.

The DS-260 asks, "other names used..."

The first time around I listed her original name with the explanation "at birth only."

This time around, filling out the DS-260 I'm considering just answering this question as a "no," since she never really "used" that name.  She wasn't even aware of that name.  And she only had it for two months as an infant.

Am I making a mistake by not listing it?

What I don't want to do is to trigger a multitude of requests by the Embassy to produce the certified court documents (with official translation of course) that show when and how the name actually changed.  So I'm thinking of just going with the fact that she never "used" any other name so therefore I'm not going to list it.  Thoughts???  To date, we have only submitted a copy of the current birth certificate.  I don't want to open up Pandora's box.

If it was ever used for that person at any time in their life, especially if it was on an official document, it should be listed. So you should list it. You are overthinking the consequences of listing it.
