Hi everyone, I need to file affidavit of support form as a joint/co-sponsor for my brother-in-law's wife. My brother-in-law's income (although meets the requirement of poverty line) however, as per consular officer is not sufficient. Can anyone please let me know if I need to fill in and submit I-864 as a joint/co-sponsor or is it I-864A? Moreover, does my brother-in-law still needs to provide his completed I-864 on his behalf? Please advise. Thank you all.

Submit a signed I-864 from petitioner, and another I-864 from joint sponsor.

Another quick question. I have my tax return 1040 showing my wife and I filing jointly, which means my wife's income is included in there. Does this mean, that when I fill in I-864, my wife has to fill in I-864A because I am using her income as well on our 1040? Am I right ?

Technically, an I-864A is not required from your wife IF your income alone is sufficient to qualify as sponsor.  But, it would be best for the visa applicant's case to have your wife sign an I-864A anyway.  Some consul officers ask for an I-864A from the sponsor's spouse, especially if they file MFJ.  It's up to you if you want to submit proactively by uploading to NVC's CEAC portal or wait first if the CO will ask for it at the visa interview.
