Hello V.J

I hope everyone is well.

I read a lot of U.S Embassies and consulates are back to their routine. My case has been DQ since June 2020 (consulate is in Ethiopia) and I was wondering if anyone has Interview date now since DQ in 2020 or anytime before/after? or is there something that shows possible timelines since DQ until Interview?

Hi ahava. My husband is also waiting for an interview at the consulate in Ethiopia, so I can try to give you some information. IR1/CR1 categories were never banned so they were eligible for processing during the pandemic, but this category is also really backed up which tells you the Ethiopian consulate has limited capacity and is working very slowly. The embassy was completely closed for interviews from March 2020 until January 2021 for ALL categories (except for a few emergency cases) and in January 2021 they started interviewing IR1&K1 cases that were DQ December 2019 that had cancelled interviews from last year.  Now, IR1 DQ from early April 2020 are scheduled for interview next month. This probably means that for F2A they are still on Nov/Dec. 2019 DQs since they have been paused since March 2020, and I don't think they have resumed interviews for any category outside of IR and K1s. I have no idea when they might resume interviews for f categories. But when they do resume, you will still probably have at least 6 months until your interview if you are June 2020 DQ.

Keep an eye out for the monthly immigrant visa issuance statistics and you will be able to see if they have started f category interviews or not. The statistics usually come out around the 20th day of every month for the previous month, and can be found here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/legal/visa-law0/visa-statistics/immigrant-visa-statistics/monthly-immigrant-visa-issuances.html

Hi @Katelyn_Wray I hope you are well. I have read IR1 cases are going fast at Addis Ababa Embassy. Do you have your interview date yet?

Hi @Ahava. Thanks, same to you! I still don't have an interview date.

I wouldn't say IR1 cases are moving fast in Addis...  When I wrote that post almost 2 months ago I knew of an IR1 who's DQ date was April 6, 2020 who had been scheduled for May. Since then, the embassy has only moved up to April 21, 2020 DQ dates who had interviews this month, and I know a couple May 5, 2020 DQ IR1 that still haven't been scheduled.... So, in the last two months they have moved through maybe 3 weeks of cases? They still haven't started May 2020 cases, and as far as I know nobody in any immigrant visa categories got scheduled for interviews in July :( (wondering if they are working on DV/Student??)

Although I have heard of 2 separate F2A cases that were DQ on March 3, 2020 that both have interviews next week. So they are moving through F2a and getting them caught up it looks like!

We have a telegram group with 120 members in it now for immigrant visa processing through Ethiopia. Feel free to message me here and I can add you to the group, if you're not already part of it.

Thanks for the info!

Generally, the NVC and Embassies are trying to get through case numbers "2020" because case numbers  " 2021" are piling up. So, i hope we will be through soon.
