I am New to this Visa thing and VJ so I am here looking for some guidance through prior experience. I am in US Navy serving in Japan. My fiance and I have been together for 3 and 1/2 years and looking at going to the States finally approx February 2008 and would really like for her to be able to come with me when I PCS. I plan on returning from operations mid July and trying to get our I-129F package out by the end of July. I have heard that there is going to be a fee change but I have not been able to find any hard evidence on this. Also when I'm looking at people's Time lines on VJ a lot of them say touched. I am that they attempted to either touch base with USCIS or USCIS touched base with them I just want to know if this means they were delayed or just looking for information and/or status. Additionally, does anyone know where to find an average wait time for interview at the Tokyo Embassy Also, in addition to regular pictures would pictures taken the same week as the package submission be feasible?Thank everyone for their assistance it is very much appreciated. Wish everyone luck on the applications and visas.

The embassy in Japan is one of the easiest to do DCF through. Their residency requirement is quite short, just a few days.

Why not look into marriage in Japan, and then file I-130 at the US Embassy in Japan, very fast process, way faster than K-1, and has the benefit of an immediate green card upon entry to the USA.

Thank you very much, I never looked at that route and it seems a whole lot easier. If there is anyone who has gone through the DCF and can give some pointers it would be very very much appreciated. YuAndDan thank you again for the advice.

I was doing the math in my head. You do the math. In both cases you will later do I-751 to lift conditions but that cost is the same both ways.

DCF,

I-130 fee: $190, $355 after 7/30

DS-230 $335

K1

I-129F fee: $180, $455 after 7/30

DS-156 $100

I-485 $1010 after July 30
