I need to file an I-865 (change of address). This is something one can usually do online, but since I moved out of the country, the USCIS website says that I need to contact the embassy/consulate in which I live. I called the embassy (China) and nobody seems to know anything. Anyone here have experience with this? Thanks.

PS...the title of this thread should be "Filing an I-865 when moving abroad"...I made a typo

What is your status?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I'm an American. The I-865 is like the AR-11, but for the American side of the couple.

Where on the website does it say send it to the Consulate where you now live? From what I saw on the instructions, there is no mention of that. Only to file it within the US to the USCIS service office that services the area where you live.

The form is here

I'd send it to the Nebraska address, and send a photo copy of it to the consulate closest to you in China with a cover letter on both explaining why you're sending it there. Or send it to the service centre for the state where you intend to move back to when you return to the US.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!
