Uncertainty of Public Charge

Hello all,

My wife(of 3 years this December) and step daughter was DQ'd on June 3rd and 10th  and I am just waiting anxiously for the interview at the U.S embassy in the Dominican Republic now. I am starting to get nervous about the income requirements as I keep investigating more and more. I made just over 42k last year for a family household size of three and my health insurance will allow me to add my wife and daughter to my insurance within 30 days. So my wife will come here and will take a cna training class to help take care of my mother as she receives care for about 15 hours a week. While she is taking care of my mother part time she will be also taken english courses to better her english language skills so she can land more opportunities for employment as she has experience as a receptionist. I am not sure if these things are enough to prove that she and my daughter will not be a public charge as I am reading in some places online that with the new public charge rule that embassies would like the income to be around 200% and the beneficiary be highly educated. I would just like people's opinion if they think I will be alright or should I look for a co sponsor, I believe I may be fine but I am just so nervous I am doubting myself.  Also  for the interview when I bring proof of a health care plan from my human resources department should I also bring details of the plan such as deductibles and copayments and other specifics. Any help will be appreciated.

I think you are over thinking :) Of course the income minimum guidelines are just that- guidelines but you have a decent amount. You can also find someone who is willing to be a joint sponsor in case you get a RFE and then at least have the paperwork/person ready to go. It would be a good idea to bring proof of the health insurance from your HR as well as the details of the plan (personally I think it looks better/more legit/more thought through).

Ok thanks, I also have dental and vision insurance for them as of right now because they didn't require SS#, should I bring that along as well with my company paid life insurance with her as beneficiary or is that excessive?

It wouldn’t hurt- I would bring it- personally I think it shows how you are taking it serious- you already started having coverage. (Good for you!)
