Sponsors Responsibility

My brother plans to marry a woman in Columbia and apply for a K3 Visa with her. He is a university student and does not currently meet the income requirements. He graduates from college in a year and plans to be a teacher, but does not want to take that long to start the Visa process. He is asking me to sponsor/co-sponsor her.

It's certainly possible that he could have problems finding a better job after graduation and of course she may not be able to find employment. So, what exactly is a sponsor's responsibility?

TIA,

Matt

It is detailed in the I 864

Basically reimburse US Gov for any benefits claimed - never heard of this happening.

Keep wife at 125% of poverty level, there have been a few caes.

Its a big ask.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

So, what exactly is a sponsor's responsibility?

(Q) I NEED A JOINT SPONSOR. WHAT ARE A JOINT SPONSOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES?

(A) The joint sponsor's responsibilities are the same as that of a petitioning relative. The affidavit of support is a legally binding agreement to provide financial support to the person(s) immigrating to the U.S.

In addition to above:

What are My Responsibilities as a Sponsor?

When you sign the Affidavit of Support, you accept legal responsibility for financially supporting the sponsored immigrant(s) until they become U.S. citizens or can be credited with 40 quarters of work. Any joint sponsors or household members whose income is used to meet the minimum income requirements are also legally responsible for financially supporting the sponsored immigrant. If the immigrant receives any "means-tested public benefits," you are responsible for repaying the cost of those benefits to the agency that provided them. If you do not repay the debt, the agency can sue you in court to get the money owed. When in doubt, ask the benefit provider whether the benefit is a "means-tested public benefit."

Also, even if they should divorce, you can still be held financially responsible for her. Just something to consider.
