Evidence of your U.S. citizenship

I was planning on making a photocopy of my Birth certificate to send in as the evidence, but now I am wondering if i need to send in an official copy issues by the government or if a regular photocopy works. I went through a couple pages and looked on many websites but I couldn't find a clear answer.

 

Would it just be better to make a photocopy of my passport?

All evidence submitted to the uscis shall be legible copies unless an original is specifically requested
