AFFIDAT OF SUPPORT : Income OF SPONSOR

Hello everybody,

I need your help.

we are in stage of NVC, my wife has less than 21k to sponsor me, so we will need a co sponsor.

 

My question is as follows: for the  co sponsor, his income must necessarily be greater than 21k for the last 3 years or just for the last year? or only 2 years?

Best if the joint sponsor has 3 years of tax transcripts and the last year making in excess of 125% of the amount in I-864p.  This years income projecting over that amount as well.

This is a valid question. If you enlose returns for more than just recent year, these will be looked at as well. The form asks if income from 24a-c is over the required threshold.

 

The key is to remember that the whole purpose of I-864 is to make sure intending immigrant will not become a public charge. It is not about crossing "magic number" and that's it. You might be over the threshold and still be asked to show more or get joint sponsor.  While "numbers" need to make sense, It's almost a hollistic approach to the situation including sponsor's and immigrant's work history, education etc.
