Hi, I recently (March 20, 2020) filed an I-485, adjustment of status, as well as I-130, I-131, and I-765. I am married (since 18 years) to an American citizen, and we have two kids, both citizens. I am in the US on an L-1b VISA, which expires in Nov, 2020.  The I-94 is valid until March 2023.

We have lived in Europe before, and intended to go back, but changed our minds.

Due to the pandemic I expect the processing time for the EAD (I-765) to be very long, and in worst case I don't get it before the L-1 expires.  What happens then?

Can I still work? - I guess not as I am out of status?

I can still stay as the I-94 is valid, but can I be employed, without salary?

Are there any exceptions in cases like these?

thankful for any response!

Your “status” after your L expires is pending adjustment. You can’t work during that phase until you get an EAD. But you have a long time till the L expires, I wouldn’t sweat it. I think you’ll be fine.
