How can I calculate the total income with the 1040 ?

What are you doing exactly? Is this a tax question or is it a question relating to AOS?

I'll assume based on the forum that you are doing AOS based on marriage, and you are asking about the I-864.

 

There are 2 separate items here:

1) Tax returns

2) Current income

 

For #1, just list the Total Income line from the 1040s (or AGI line for 1040EZ) for the 3 years. It's a copy/paste exactly from the tax return.

 

For #2, this depends on your source of income.

If you are an employee - meaning you generally would get a W-2 - then your current income is how much you make in a 12 month period. It's not related to your tax returns. So if you earn $1000/week and work 52 weeks/year, your annual income is $52,000. If you got laid off today, your current income would be $0.

If you are self employed, your current income would be that as declared on the most recent year's tax return.

That is not (necessarily) correct. Current income determines if they meet the minimum requirements. The IO will determine if it is sufficient or not to address the public charge inadmissibility.

 

The line that says "total income" on the 1040 is the one to use for where it asks about past tax returns (or the AGI line on the 1040EZ).

For my additional sponsor on the w2 where can I see if they qualify since they have told me that the total income line is the correct not the gross one?
