Hey all,

I dont want to be that guy that didnt use the search bar, but I promise I did!

Has anyone ever filled out the I-129F section 40.B and had to answer 41, 42a.-42.c?

I was naturalized after I turned 18 (now 33) so I could vote. I literally went to get my passport the following week. I dont recall getting a Certificate of Naturalization or Certificate of Citizenship. Would I have to order one to get that type of information? It looks like the N-550 form but its $500+ to order. That sounds expensive just to get this information.

Thank you

You would have had to submit your Naturalization certificate to get your passport, so you had it at one time I would think. You only have to fill out the 42.a thru 42.c if you answer yes to question 41. If you select 40.b and never got the certificate in your name then you would answer No to question 41 and 42.a-42.c would be irrelevant. Did you ever get a Naturalization certificate? That would be the question. I am not sure how else you would get the information without the certificate, maybe someone else has an idea. If you had it and lost it, I think you might be stuck paying the 500+

Thank you for the reply! I was 18 and pretty irresponsible. I do recall having some form that was taken from me when I applied for my passport and sent in, but I am not sure if that was the certificate of naturalization or certificate of citizenship. Wouldnt a passport be enough proof that I am a citizen? It just seems crazy having to pay $555 to get a number if its easily traceable online. At the same time, a more mature 18 year old wouldve made a copy.
