Did a search and didn't find much evidence anywhere online of this ever happening before so thought I'd raise awareness/see if anyone had had this before.  I submitted my i485, i765, i131 and i693 together back in December and I've just got a Courtesy Letter from USCIS stating:

The Civil Surgeon that completed the examination does not appear to have been a valid USCIS designated Civil Surgeon on the date the examination was conducted.

Obviously I shall be contacting the surgeon when he arrives back from his winter in Mexico in 2 weeks time to understand why this might have happened but I'm shocked this could happen.  I went to the USCIS website, search up local doctors, found this one and went the same day for an appointment.  There was not even a single day delay, so either the form had a typo regarding his credentials (trying to dig out the form to see if I can spot anything) OR the USCIS website had incorrect information on it about his validity and he didn't mention this to me when I went.

I will contact my attorney and see if this is something worth raising issue with the USCIS about, but to be honest I assume its one of those things where I'm the one applying for something privileged so if I want it I should be following their guidance and paying the premium.

$1000 for the two of us potentially wasted here, so a warning to everyone - check the validity of your surgeon!
