How long can you delay rescheduling an interview for?

Assuming no COVID-19 delays, I'm likely to have a late May interview scheduled for my case. However, there's a strong possibility that I want to delay getting my visa for at least another 6 months which would allow me about a year from that original interview date to do my POE.

So that's 6 month delay of original interview (postponed to late November) and then I'll have 6 months after the medical (which would be taken in November) to enter. 

 

I understand that my police certificate would need to be updated since it would be more than a year old.

 

Does anyone know how long interviews can be delayed for without having to start the whole process over? Is a specific reason needed to do so? Do you need to inform the Consulate of your plan to miss your interview and reschedule at a later time?

 

Any insight would be appreciated.
