what would be the point of checking your new married name? They cant really do a background check on a name youve had for just a couple weeks/months. Just chceked on a site - 'how many of me' and it seems that noone in the usa has my 1st name! lol - it was probably just a joke site, but i wouldnt be surprised. Even in the UK (and its an English name) about 85% of people I meet have never heard it before - even through there are 2 british actresses with the same 1st name! lol!

I'll try to elaborate.... You said your checks only took a few days, but was it a FBI name check as in the same name check which a marriage visa has? Or was it completed by another agency using a different search database?.....

What I'm asking is why did your name check only take a few days to complete when a marriage visa name check in some circumstances can take months or years?

The namechecks before included FBI and some other agencies. FBI namechecks come in 2 forms generally it seems, ones that come back instantly and ones that take much longer. AFAIK the reason my namechecks clears quickly is because I have no "hits" on the FBI database.

Of course USCIS are also part of the equation, they're not blameless for namecheck delays in some cases.

Does anyone know if they check your maiden or married name?

My new married name is the same name as a couple of authors! I wonder if this will cause a problem. I did some research based on U.S. census data, and apparently there are about 700 people with my married first and last name in the united states, and 175 people with my maiden first and last name. I sure hope they've been good! Hahaha!

I'm pretty sure they check all names used present or past.

You can check census data on names? Hmm.. I should do that. My name is not common so I am hoping that my name check clears pretty fast.

Not everyone who applies for AOS are newly married so I suppose they just do all names used for every applicant regardless of when you got married. Someone could still go out and commit a crime the day they got married. :)
