Most companies will require the SSN or an explanation from the USCIS/SSA offices

I have a CR1 Visa...... Do I have to wait until my SSN number and card arrive before I begin work?

The two staffing companies I'm dealing with at the moment (they find jobs for you -- temporary until they find you something permanent most times) don't care that I don't have my SSN yet. They just want my A# and said they'll set me up for interviews and such already, since they know my SSN will come soon. :)
