Can I ask for a later Interview date?

So your interest will go up $1000/yr.

That's less than $84/month

That's less than $20/week

That's less than $3/day

It's not worth $3/day to be with your SO??????

Sure, but as Galateia accurately put it, student loan debt, on top of AOS fees and moving costs. Add in the fact that we're looking at least three months of unemployment on my end (moving + courthouse wedding details + waiting period for EAD) and we're talking more than just $3 a day. Bee has his own mountain of debts to chip away at and I'm not willing to have him support my own financial straits on top of his while waiting for my EAD to go through.

As I said, hopefully I can chip away at the principal while I finish my last semester. We haven't become less dedicated to each other, just pragmatic about the situation. Neither of us like it at all but at some point we have to accept that a little bit of sacrifice is needed for us to get through this hurdle.

Excuse me? Maybe you didn't mean to be totally offensive, but if you were intending to be so, you certainly succeeded.

If I frantically work as much as I possibly can, paying off as much as I can, not only will I not pay down my student loans, they will grow. By $1000 a year, no less, making each year's interest rise. Are you suggesting that another 6 months away from my SO is worth crippling my entire financial future? I may be in love, but I am neither stupid nor reckless.

Or perhaps you are suggesting that our relationship would not be able to endure the strain of an extra 6 months separation? I would pale to think that people were marrying when so unsure of their relationships.

As I would not ask my fiance to give up his career by dropping out of graduate school and immigrating to Canada, he would not ask me to sacrifice my second degree and our financial standing for a mere six more months out of a lifetime.

You need a cosponser.

I'm not sure what you mean? We did have a co-sponsor provide the Affidavit of Support, is that what you are referring to? We cannot ask the co-sponsor to pay for my loans, nor to co-sign a loan that would have a lower interest rate. My student loan debt is not their responsibility, and when asking this same co-sponsor for financial advice over my loan situation, they made it clear there was no way ameliorate my situation. If they were willing to help in any way, they would have offered it then. It was made clear that we are on our own with this. We were fortunate they were even willing to co-sponsor for the K-1.

I have no one to ask for help; none of the people I could ask have any collateral to speak of that would allow me to switch my loan to a bank.

Galateia only you know what's best for you. I admire that you are thinking furthur down the line. I'm not going to delay my interview, but I'm working my butt off to make sure my debts are paid before I leave. If it takes abit longer, well, then I might be here an extra month. I'd rather sit back and enjoy my time off work instead of sitting there stressing because I can't work and my bills are piling up in Canada.

I've watched family and friends struggle with those loans, so do what you have to do.

Er, what? I most certainly am a Canadian citizen. I've stated a few times that my fiance is the USC. Where did I state otherwise? You can clearly see the Canadian icon below my avatar, and I have repeatedly stated that I am the one moving to the US. Logic would dictate that I am, in fact, the Canadian citizen. As for the government making a payment towards my loans, I was mistaken; they only help(ed) me when I have been enrolled in classes the previous year. They are still covering the interest, of course, provided I remain a resident of Canada.

Thank you. Thinking ahead is very important to me; when first a student I learned what happens when you fly by the seat of your pants; it was a harsh and painful lesson that could have landed me evicted onto the street and forced out of school. What you describe is exactly what I would be doing, and my fiance has stated that he would rather wait another 6 months than see me in constant hysterics for four years. I'm marrying a smart man.

You barrel into my thread, don't bother to read it, and then demand to know why the Canadian government is extending assistance to a non-citizen, protesting that I (in CAPS no less) am getting something that you aren't. Then, when someone else asks what your question contributes to the thread, rather than offering an explanation or even an "I read that wrong", you responding by demanding to know why he did not help in any of your threads, while simultaneously questioning the contribution he is making to this thread.

The way you phrased your question was both accusatory and 'antagonizing' in tone, which would explain why you got an unfriendly response in turn. You also had plenty of time to edit your post to add this 'apology and explanation', but you did not do so.

Perhaps you, like so many of us on here, are feeling the stress of having your future with your spouse in the hands of a faceless and uncaring organization. If that's the case, I offer my sympathy and wish you the best in your visa journey. Please remember that everyone on here is feeling this strain, and honey attracts more flies than vinegar.

AHEM,

thought this thread was about it being possible to request a later interview date at the Montreal consulate.

Galateia, have you tried to call them or email the consulate and see when they might reschedule you for a later interview. I think it was Neiks that did that and she really got pushed back.

You might try the "canada" forum, under Montreal timeline to interview.

EDIT: you also might get some higher bids for your interview than Liz offered :lol:

And you ask why I have not helped in any of your threads?

If you even had a look at the first page I did offer a suggestion to the OP. There is absolutly no need to being rude.

Why is the Canadian government helping YOU with 2K a year and you're not a Canadian citizen? I'm a Canadian citizen and they ain't paying any of it for me!

Well, I had started typing out an apology and an explanation. But then when I read how you were unnecessarily rude and antagonizing, I changed my mind. So...no apology. No explanation. Pay your own loan off.

Who says I had 'plenty of time to apologize and edit what I said'? For one, you don't know that. And two, you are accusing me of lying. I didn't lie. I was going to apologize and explain myself. But then I saw your response. No apology forthcoming. No explanation forthcoming. Have a nice day.

there would be a bidding war for your interview date. Could help pay off some of that tuition loan or AOS fees ;)

AHEM,

thought this thread was about it being possible to request a later interview date at the Montreal consulate.
