Hello,

Our K-1 interview in Montreal is coming up very soon. We've read some conflicting information on online guides regarding "dependents" on I-134. Furthermore, here on VisaJourney, relevant questions are by those who really do have existing dependents in addition to the future dependent that the K-1 beneficiary will be until he/she is legally allowed to work in the United States. Just checking for understanding: if anyone could confirm we have this right, it would be very much appreciated. Here's how we understand it:

We are not to list the K-1 applicant on I-134 as a dependent. (Part 3, Other Information about the Sponsor.) This form is asking about the sponsor's existing dependents, ones they would have listed as such on their last tax return.

But it seems that some have chosen to list the K-1 beneficiary as a dependent, and then checking the "wholly dependent on me" instead of "partially dependent on me." More authoritative sources, however, seem to indicate this section really does refer only to previously existing dependents and not the K-1 applicant.

Again, your help is always appreciated. We have made extensive use of this forum and website and they have been extremely helpful.
