OK OK rejuvenating this thread...

it is now a year later that this thread was started.. MP3 etc have changed tons..

lets see.. what I can offer or add..

My daughter had a Ipod.. got at BestBuy.. started with the shuffle.. that locked up .. after three months of use.. and pain in #######.. thankgoodness we got the replacement warranty from BestBuy..

with the Warranty. we were able to get new one.. paid the difference for the Nano.. that was great she was happy.. but less than 60day after purchase .. about the time the ipod video came out.. she started to have problems with the nano.. back to bestbuy.. they changed the pod to the new one... only one available was the video.. nano.. whoo..

she loved it.. added videos to it.. got a converter.. then.. augh.. that locked up .. back to BestBuy... but decided... damn... no more IPOD.. and switched to Zune..

she got the 8gig Video.. paid only small difference.. I think it cost us about $20 to do then whole change... whoohoo...

all this time .. with each return.. the staff prorated my warranty.. so now it is about 15 months since original purchase... .. have the Zune.. she loves it.. sounds 100% better than Ipod..

My only now complaint ... .. we keep trying to convert videos to go on the Zune.. .. does anyone know of the format.. or any conversion programs.. freeware? that will let Zune software upload..?

the videos we have.. we had converted Pride and Prejudice.. got it on Ipod but.. for the life of us cant get it onto the Zune....

any ideas??

Son in law downloaded Newsbin for us.. .. can get some good videos there.. but.. now not sure what format to use?

I bought the iPod Nano 8G 4 months ago on Amazon for $185, so far no problems, except::

I bought a bunch of MP3 discs in Nepal thinking I could copy them using iTunes, but for some reason my computer doesn't even recognize the files. My old Discman plays them fine. Is there some kind of conversion software I can get that will enable me to copy the files???

ETA: Ironically, my husband was able to upload the mp3 files to his PC but not other regular CDs which I bought - I had the opposite problem, the regular CDs copy fine, just not the mp3 CDs.

I bought a Zune 30 Gig player for $105 SHIPPED.

It goes everywhere I go - in my Jeep to power my sound, on vacation, etc. Consider me a satisfied customer.

I read somewhere that you had to convert video to .wma or Windows Media Application. Look this up on-line, but I am pretty sure this is the file type you will need to use. PM me if not, and I will work on this with you. I have the software tools that will make this work if necessary.

I have been thinking about getting something portable (home and car) to put all my music on so I can stop lugging around all these CD's. What type of devices do you have? What is the best out there within a decent price range? Everyone seems to push the Ipod...is it as good as they make it out to be?

Also if you do have an Ipod or something similar do you buy music online or just download your CD's? What sites give the best deals?

Any tips/insight is greatly appreciated

I have an ipod classic(80 gb)and i am downloading music from itunes and it's for free...you also can download thousands of pictures,videos,and movies in it....you also can download your cd's vcd's but again just import it through i tunes...Hope this helps...
