Hello folks, I had a question. I am finishing the AOS paperwork and I am trying to fill out form I 765 Employment authorization.

I got married in mid June, and 4 weeks ago my new wife applied for an ssn number. The clerk said it would take 4 weeks to verify her information. Today we went back to check the status and the same clerk said the info was not verified yet and she doesn't know when they will verify the info. It has already been almost two months since my wife arrived here and I want to send the AOS now but I don't know what to put for these questions.

"Has the social security administration (SSA) ever officially issued a social security card to you?"

"Do you want the ssa to issue you a social security card?"

Do I just try to apply again here even though we applied at the ssa office?

Thank you

If she ever had a card issued to her before you send off the packet you'd want to check yes to "Has the Social Security Administration...". Some folks have gotten SSNs on prior work visas or school visas for example. If she's never had an SSN check no. For "do you want ssa to issue you a social security card" is just asking if you want a SSN to come with your EAD. Most folks do indeed want an SSN issued to them with the EAD (saves you a trip to the SSA office later), so you'd likely want to check yes.

For my husbands AOS he didn't have a SSN when we applied (selected no to the first question), and wanted an SSN to come with his EAD (checked yes to the second question). We wound up getting his GC before the EAD came and then we went to the SSA office to get an SSN.

as far as I know most folks doing an AOS aren't able to get a new SSN if they don't have their EAD or GC yet so that might be where your SSA is running into an issue verifying her info.
