Name change after marriage.

Well as most of you know Filipinas when they get married not only take their husband's last name they also make their maiden name their middle name. So I guess what I'm wondering is when we file AOS and EAD, do we just simply use her new middle and last name on all the forms? Or is the fact she is not simply replacing her last name with my last name become a problem? Do we need to go the the courts to do some kind of special name change or something?

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

Yes you can do this, we did the same thing. My Wife had no middle name, so she adopted her family name as middle and took my family name as married name.

Not a problem with SSA, and not a problem for USCIS, as long as the marriage cert reflected this.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

When I filed my AOS, I used my married name and as for my maiden name it became my middle name and everything went well. So, don't worry and you don't have to go to the court for this. Goodluck and God bless.

i was having a hard time with all this names. ive got 2 names as my first name and a middle name from my mom's maiden name and then my last name from my dad. when i got married of course i have an option not to change or add my husband's name (mind blowing). they wont accept my 2 names as my first name (or not in their computer anyways e.g ssn, plane tickets, etc). so what they often do is combined my 2 names as my first name (one word), then somebody adviced us (r.bacon) to just drop my 2nd name when applying for aos and have my last name (b4 i got married) as middle name since its been a practice in phil and then use my husband's name as my last. so now instead of having 4 names, i only got 3.

now im worried if i want to get a new passport from phil gov't, im not really sure what they want it to be knowing originally ive got 2 names as my first name. lol. gosh

I know some of us got 2 names as first name. Actually, you can use your 2 names, well your 2nd name will be your middle name. Here in the US the middle name means your 2nd name and not really your maiden name. I know you don't want to drop your father' name for the sake of respect, but just like i've said the middle name ang maiden name is different here in the US. If your Philippine passport is still valid for a couple of years maybe just leave it that way for the mean time until you're qualified to apply for US citizenship. And if you are planning to take a vacation back in the Philippines then i don't see any problem, too by just showing your GC and marriage certificate. If i were you i will stick to my first name and then the 2nd name will be my middle name. Some papers ask your maiden name, too. Anyway, my friend who had a first 3 names in her birth certificate, she just used her fist name and the 2nd as middle name and she dropped her 3rd name which went ok.

Goodluck kabayan!

thanks Walls. somehow im now using just my first name and my maiden name then my husband's last name (3 names) when we applied for aos. so we better stick to that one or it would create more confusion. lol... i like what you've said that as long as i can use the green card? upon leaving and entering both Phil and US, then i surely hope im good for now. my passport will expire in 2011.

Yes, you're good at it with your GC for going out and entering in the US, just don't forget to bring your marriage certificate with you.
