When to schedule medical and interview-DCF London

Hello,
I am a USC with a UKC husband filing for CR1 through London Embassy. My husband has just completed his DS 260. The website and confirmation of his application states that he is not supposed to schedule an interview until receiving an interview letter. However, I've been reading on here and other forums that people have scheduled interviews right after receiving their LND number. I'm a bit confused by what the interview letter is, and when it arrives. Is it just the letter that included his LND number? Can we schedule his interview immediately? Sorry, if this is a silly question or has been answered before.
