Previous Marriage Certificate

So I am trying to have as many documents ready as in advance for the interview as possible and I notice that it states:

Marriage certificate* - the original or certified copy bearing the appropriate seal or stamp of the issuing authority for each of the applicant's marriages.

Since it says applicant, is that only the beneficiary that is required to have that or does he need to show my marriage certificate and divorce decree at his interview as well?

So I, the USC, was married once before and have the divorce decree. However, when I applied for my divorce, I had to send in the original marriage certificate and never got it back. Do I need to get another copy of my original marriage certificate?

Converse34,

I (the USC) was married before but only submitted a certified divorce decree - as proof of being eligible to marry. Am not certain what a marriage certificate, in the presence of a decree, would prove since you can't have one without the other.. ;)

But assuming you wanted to have it anyway - a certified copy can be requested from the court/authority you were married through.

Filed: Timeline

I recall my husband (the USC) having to bring his divorce decree to the interview (he came with me), but not a marriage certificate.

I have a vague recollection of having to submit my marriage certificate at some point, and bring my first husband's death certificate to the interview.

So, no, I really don't think you need it because it specifically states "Applicant".

All the best on your interview!!

OK. Thanks everyone. I will just make sure he has the original copy of my divorce decree.
