After scheduling interview for k1 in Rio, does the consulate email the petitioner/beneficiary with confirmation of appointment and list of requirements?  Do some people get and email and some people don’t ?  Is the email mandatory to receive before interview ?

The email sent by the embassy to the petitioner should precede the scheduling of the interview and medical, as the email contains the info you will need to schedule both, what docs are needed, etc. Every petitioner should receive one, may take a little while.

some people don’t want to wait and it seems there aren’t any implications and they can carry on just fine.

the confirmation of your scheduled appointment for interview is sent automatically by the website, can’t recall the consulate confirming.

I just finished setting up appointments for interview and BIO (fingerprint/photo). They are now separate (as of August 28) in Rio. Here is my timeline.

July 19         129F Approved

August 7      Email from NVC saying they received packet from USCIS

August 28    Email from Rio Consulate with info about what is needed, how to set up appointments and details about medical

Sept 21         Went online and filled in DS-160, paid fee of $265 and set up one appointment for Bio (fingerprint/photo - said would only take 10 minutes - offsite - not at Consulate) and another appointment for the actual interview.

Sept 2

Sept 24     Called doctor, set up appointment for labs and the consult with doctor. Must finish with doctor 1 week before interview)

After waiting so long, I wanted to get things done very fast, but I decided to take a breath and planned the interview out about 6 weeks to give my fiancé plenty of time to get everything together (police reports, birth certificate, etc, etc)

Good luck.

Hi all, some questions: my fiancé’s lawyer submitted his DS-160 about a month ago. We haven’t heard anything...is this normal? Did we miss something? Just feeling a little lost. When I search the RDJ case number, it says ‘Ready’, and that we are supposed to wait for the email...maybe I am just being worried for no reason, but it just seems like a long time has passed with crickets!

As soon as the case say “ready” submit DS-160, then schedule your medical, biometrics & interview.
